Vietnam and Sri Lanka seek to foster bilateral and parliamentary cooperation

(VOVworld) – The President of Sri Lanka’s Parliament Chamal Rajapaksa has begun an official visit to Vietnam. After the welcoming ceremony, Chamal held talks with National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung on ways to foster cooperation between the two legislative bodies and their countries. They agreed to work more closely in monitoring the implementation of cooperative agreements between the two governments with the aim of creating a favorable legal environment for businesses to further trade and investment cooperation. The two sides will increase the exchange of experience in legislation and parliamentary supervision and consult each other in multilateral forums.

National Assembly Chairman Hung called on both sides to facilitate businesses in the fields of fisheries, agriculture and oil and gas while continuing to support each other at regional and international forums.

President Chamal said the two sides should work together in resolving global issues of mutual concern such as economic recession and climate change.

Earlier, Chamal visited the Ho Chi Minh Museum and the Vietnam Buddhist Academy. The same day, the Minister of Science and General Secretary of the Sri Lanka’s Socialist Party held a working session with leaders of Vietnam’s Party Central Committee’s Commission for External Relations and the Ministry of Science and Technology.  

The same day, President Truong Tan Sang held talks with the Speaker of Sri Lanka’s Parliament. He requested that Sri Lanka facilitate Vietnamese businesses to seek investment cooperation in Sri Lanka and said that Vietnam always welcomes Sri Lanka’s businesses to invest in the country. President Sang also conveyed his invitation to the President of Sri Lanka to visit Vietnam in the coming time.
