Vietnam, Australia to upgrade bilateral ties to comprehensive strategic partnership

Chairman Hue reiterated the National Assembly’s support of lifting bilateral ties to comprehensive strategic partnership after 50 years of diplomatic ties.

He called for cooperation to celebrate the 50th anniversary next year and called for further cooperation between the two legislative bodies, especially in multilateral mechanisms, including the Interparliamentary Union and the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum.

Minister Wong said that Australia always considers Vietnam as a friend and close partner in the ASEAN and the region, praising the upcoming comprehensive strategic partnership a major step forward which reflects mutual strategic trust and determination to boost bilateral cooperation, especially in economic, climate change adaptation and others. 

Chairman Hue received the Australia–Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarian Group on Thursday.
