The project will be carried out by Ministry of Defense’s High Command of Chemicals.
During the Vietnam War, the American military used A So Valley as a field airport and a site to store toxic chemicals. Between 1961 and 1971, 430,000 gallons of herbicide containing 11 kilos of dioxin were sprayed on Thua Thien Hue province, particularly the A So airport area.
Thua Thien-Hue was one of the most heavily affected places by dioxin in Vietnam. It is home to nearly 16,000 people who were exposed to Agent Orange. A Luoi district alone has 5,000 AO victims.
