Vietnam calls for peaceful dialogue to restore stability in Mali

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam supports efforts being made by the UN, the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the global community to promote dialogue as the way to resolve conflicts and bring the situation in Mali back to normal, said Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese Permanent Mission to the UN.

During a videoconference held by the UN Security Council Wednesday, he expressed deep concern about the current situation in Mali, and urged all parties to show restraint, avoid any use of force, and seek a peaceful political solution in line with the Constitution and laws of Mali to restore stability and social order.

Ambassador Quy's statement came after African Union chairman Moussa Faki condemned the detention of Mali's political leaders, demanded they be freed immediately, objected to 'any attempt at unconstitutional change of government', and urged the fighters to halt their use of violence.
