Vietnam confirms first Omicron infection
(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Health has confirmed the first case of the Omicron variant of coronavirus in Vietnam.
The carrier was a male returnee from the United Kingdom. The patient was immediately quarantined after he landed at Hanoi’s International Airport on December 19, and has not had any contact with the public.
After a rapid COVID-19 test returned a positive result, he was transported from the airport to Central Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi in a specialised vehicle.
The hospital conducted genome sequencing for the patient twice last week and confirmed he was carrying the Omicron variant.
Hanoi authorities on Monday issued a plan on responding to Omicron in the capital city, focusing on strengthening quarantine supervision at Noi Bai airport, surveillance, and early detection of suspected cases.
