Vietnam confirms legitimacy and normality of its deployment of search and rescue vessel to Hoang Sa

(VOVworld) - The Foreign Ministry deputy spokeswoman has voiced Vietnam’s view on Chinese naval ship’s obstruction of Vietnamese search and rescue vessels operating in Tri Ton island, Hoang Sa (Paracel archipelago) to support Vietnamese fishermen in need.

Deputy spokeswoman Pham Thu Hang told the press on Thursday: “Vietnamese Foreign Ministry is verifying this information. Vietnam once again repeated its undisputed sovereignty over Hoang Sa or Paracel archipelago. Vietnam’s deployment of search and rescue vessels to Hoang Sa is normal, legitimate and in compliant with the Vietnamese law, international law, and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.”
The deputy spokeswoman said the Vietnamese government has sent its deep condolences to the Chinese government and people as well as victims of the Yangtze boat accident on June 1.
Regarding the US Secretary of Defense’s recent visit to Vietnam, the deputy spokeswoman said it opened important cooperative areas to raise bilateral defense cooperation to a new height. The common vision declaration signed during the visit will strengthen mutual understanding, build trust and promote bilateral comprehensive partnership for mutual interests, peace and stability without harming any countries’ security.
