Vietnamese Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong and Democratic People's Republic of Korea Chairman Kim Jong-un

Speaking at the event, Party leader and President Trong praised Chairman Kim’s official friendly visit to Vietnam saying it is the highest-ranking visit of the DPRK Party and State to Vietnam in 55 years. Mr. Trong said the visit marked a milestone in bilateral ties between the two Parties and the two countries. He highlighted the significance of Chairman Kim’s visit when the two countries are preparing to celebrate the 70^th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in January 2020. Mr. Trong said: “The bilateral traditional friendship founded and fostered by President Ho Chi Minh and President Kim Il Sung has undergone several challenges and been continued by the two peoples. With Chairman Kim Jong-un’s visit to Vietnam and support of the two countries’ leaders and peoples, we have a firm foundation to  believe that our traditional friendship will grow further for the interests of the two countries and for peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.”  

Chairman Kim thanked Vietnam for its warm welcome saying he will continue the two countries’ predecessors’ steps to further strengthen bilateral ties. He said the DPRK’s Party, State and people are determined to promote the bilateral friendship and cooperation. He said he believed his visit to Vietnam will open a new page in the development of the DPRK-Vietnam ties.

Chairman Kim Jong-un left Hanoi on Saturday morning concluding his official friendship visit to Vietnam and his stay to attend the 2nd DPRK-USA Summit. Earlier on the same day, Chairman Kim paid tribute to late Vietnamese President Ho Chi Minh at his mausoleum and laid a wreath at the Monument of Heroic Martyrs.
