Vietnam enhances vocational training, job creation for persons with disabilities

(VOVWORLD) - December 3 marks International Day of Persons with Disabilities. The Vietnamese Party, State, and Government have paid attention to implementing vocational training and job creation for people with disabilities and help them integrate into society.

Vietnam is one of the countries having fairly complete and comprehensive policies for people with disabilities, including the Law on Persons with Disabilities. It has ratified the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

To Duc, Director of the Department of Social Protection of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs, said that on August 5, 2020, the Prime Minister approved the program to support people with disabilities for the period 2021-2030 with many priorities on vocational training and job creation:

“The program targets that by 2030, 300,000 people with disabilities nationwide having sufficient conditions will be supported with vocational training and job creation. It strives to support 100% of people with disabilities with sufficient conditions to get access to loans at preferential interest rates to generate livelihoods and jobs,” said Duc.

Vietnam has about 7 million people with disabilities, accounting for 7% of the population aged 2 and over.
