Vietnam forecast to be impacted by 4-6 storms until October

(VOVWORLD) - The Institute of Meteorology, Hydrology and Climate Change (IMHEN) on Monday reported that from now to October, there will be 7 to 8 storms and tropical depressions in the East Sea, of which 3 to 4 may have direct impact on Vietnam.

In the period of 1991-2020, each year, 3-4 storms battered Vietnam. In the next three months, the total rainfall in the North, the Central Highlands, and the South will reach the annual average. But the Central region is warned of heavier rainfall in the coming months.

The Department of Dyke Management and Natural Disaster Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said since the beginning of this year, more than 100 people were killed or reported missing mostly due to landslides and flash floods as a tropical depression hit the Central region, and a storm swept through the Northern region.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's official dispatch on Sunday requested provinces, ministries and agencies to proactively prevent and overcome the consequences of natural disasters, and finalize plans to respond to each type of natural disaster especially storms, floods, and landslides.
