Vietnam gains international experience in health insurance
(VOVworld) – Head of the National Assembly Committee for Social Affairs Truong Thi Mai says that health insurance is one of the pillars of Vietnam’s social welfare policy. At a workshop on international health insurance co-organized by the World Health Organization in Hanoi on Tuesday, Mai said that health insurance helps to build a fair and effective healthcare sector. Two-thirds of Vietnam’s population had health insurance in 2013. Mai added that to achieve the target of 75% by 2015 and 80% by 2020, Vietnam needs to formulate new policies: “Vietnam has gone a long way in implementing the health insurance policy. The National Assembly will discuss revisions to the 2009 Law on Health Insurance in May. A roadmap for health insurance has been devised. However, there remain challenges that limit Vietnam’s health insurance coverage, namely, the supply of services, the level of contributions, and access to health insurance.”
