Vietnam guarantees compliance with national, international rule of law

(VOVWORLD) - The 6th Committee for Legal Affairs of the UN General Assembly convened in New York on Wednesday with the rule of law at national and international levels being high on the agenda.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Vietnamese Delegation to the United Nations, emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law at all levels in the development of each country and the international community. This is a way to build trust, strengthen solidarity, and effectively respond to common challenges, said Giang.

Given the ongoing conflicts in many regions of the world, Vietnam calls on all adversaries involved in conflicts must respect international law and especially international humanitarian law in order to ensure the safety and security of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

He said that ASEAN member states are dedicated to transforming Southeast Asia into a region of peace, stability and prosperity, adding that the recent developments in the East Sea,  internationally known as the South China Sea, remain a source of concern. He underscored that involved parties should abide by international law, and diplomatic and legal procedures.

Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang also said that Vietnam is continuing to implement judicial reform and strengthen its own legal system to develop a rule‑of‑law state. It will cooperate closely with the United Nations and other partners to ensure stronger compliance with the principles of rule of law at national and international levels.
