The statement was made by Professor Nguyen Xuan Thang, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Theoretical Council and Director of the Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics, at an international symposium in Hanoi on Friday. The event coincided with the 45th anniversary of Vietnam-Japan diplomatic ties on September 21.

Mr. Thang called for improved connectivity and economic cooperation in line with the enhancement of the regional integration trend and the rapid evolution of the 4th Industrial Revolution.

He noted that to bring the two countries' relationship to a new height, the two sides should play the leading role in boosting the realization of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), working together to negotiate the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), and proactively participate in building an open and free Pacific –Indian Ocean economic region.
