(VOVworld)- Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith left Hanoi on Wednesday evening to return home after he co-chaired the 39th meeting of the Vietnam-Laos Inter-Governmental Committee held in Hanoi on Tuesday and Wednesday.

During his stay in Vietnam, Sisoulith paid courtesy visits to Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong and State President Tran Dai Quang, and met with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.

At various separate meetings, senior leaders of the two countries reiterated promises to preserve, nurture, uphold, and hand over their bilateral solidarity to the next generation.

The leaders spoke highly of the major outcomes of the 39th meeting of the Inter-Governmental Committee and pledged to effectively implement high-level agreements and deals between the two governments.

The two sides agreed to reinforce political, diplomatic, national defence, security, investment, and trade ties while expanding coordination in human resources training, transport infrastructure, and the sustainable use and management of water and natural resources.

They said they are determined to work closely together to hold the Year of Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship 2017, the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties, and the 40th anniversary of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC).

Following the Inter-Governmental Committee meeting, the two Prime Ministers witnessed the signing of four cooperation documents and co-chaired a press conference on the outcomes of the meeting.
