Vietnam, Lithuania promote multilateral cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnamese government has always valued and wished to continue to strengthen relations with Lithuania, a traditional partner and friend in Central Eastern Europe, said Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania, Gabrielius Landsbergis in Hanoi on Wednesday.

Prime Minister Chinh proposed the two countries increase exchanges of delegations at all levels to enhance political trust and mutual understanding and to create a foundation for bilateral cooperation in all fields.

He recommended the two sides consider forming bilateral economic cooperation mechanisms, encourage their businesses to explore the other’s markets, and seek opportunities for cooperation.

The Vietnamese Prime Minister proposed Lithuania to create favorable conditions for the export of Vietnamese agricultural, forestry, and fishery products Lithuania.

The two sides discussed a number of measures to promote cooperation in information technology, education, culture, tourism, agriculture, and labor.

Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis urged Vietnam to create favorable conditions for importing Lithuanian agricultural products, such as beef, poultry, and eggs.

Also on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Lithuanian Foreign Minister Gabrielius Landsbergis, who is in Hanoi to attend the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) Southeast Ministers Forum from on Wednesday and Thursday.

This is the first Foreign Minister‑level visit since Vietnam and Lithuania established diplomatic relations in 1992. After the talks, the two Ministers signed a cooperation agreement between the two Foreign Ministries.
