Vietnam marks 38th World Food Day

(VOVWORLD) - A ceremony marking the 38th World Food Day and the 40th anniversary of the FAO’s operation in Vietnam took place in Hanoi on Tuesday.

This year’s World Food Day theme, “Our Actions are our Future. A Zero Hunger world by 2030 is possible”, is also a key mission of the FAO in Vietnam. World Food Day and its Zero Hunger goal reflect the FAO and  Vietnamese government’s fruitful partnership over the past four decades to transform Vietnam from a large net importer of foodstuffs into the world’s third largest rice exporter and ensure its population’s access to high-quality food.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Quoc Doanh said Vietnam has established a National Steering Committee for the Zero Hunger Action Program in the period spanning 2016-2025.

"Authorities, law makers, stakeholders, and farmers should collaborate to achieve the goals laid out by Zero Hunger through investment policies to build sustainable food production systems in order to ensure that the poor and most vulnerable benefit from consequent growth and employment opportunities," he said.
