Lieutenant General Giang, who is also Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA), highlighted effective engagements between the two armies in line with their memorandum of understanding on defence cooperation signed in 2013 and the two countries’ comprehensive partnership. He recommended the two sides boost further exchanges of delegations and experience in UN peacekeeping missions.
Major General Kelly said his current visit to Vietnam helps improve his understanding of the country, its people and some army units. He said he wants the two armies to extend joint work in human resources training, marine security cooperation, disaster aid and UN peacekeeping missions.
