Vietnam, Philippines strengthen parliamentary cooperation

(VOVWORLD) -National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue held talks with President of the Philippine Senate Juan Miguel Zubiri on Wednesday, in Manila.

The two leaders applauded the cooperative relationship between the two legislative bodies on both bilateral and multilateral levels and affirmed the central role of parliamentary cooperation in enhancing relations between countries.

The two sides agreed to maintain the exchange of delegations, strengthen the exchange of experiences between the Committees on legislation and supervision work, maintain consultation, coordination and mutual support in multilateral cooperation mechanisms.

Both emphasized the need to actively coordinate to strengthen the solidarity, stance and centrality of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in handling traditional and non-traditional security challenges. National Assembly Chairman Hue suggested that the two sides organize seminars and forums to discuss specific cooperation in this field.

He called on the two countries to uphold ASEAN's stance, effectively implement the DOC and work towards completing the COC on the basis of UNCLOS 1982.

Earlier on the same day, at the Senate Headquarters, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue attended a meeting of the Philippine Senate and witnessed the passage of Resolution 26 sponsored by Senator Ronald Marapon Dela Rosa to strengthen Philippine-Vietnamese parliamentary relations.
