The UN’s Deputy Secretaries-General for Peacekeeping and Political Affairs, and delegates from over 70 countries, emphasized the critical role of peacekeeping and peacebuilding in conflict resolution, advancing political processes, and safeguarding civilians.
In his address, Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Representative of the Vietnamese Permanent Delegation to the UN, proposed prioritizing the protection of civilians, particularly women and children, in all peacekeeping mandates; strengthening UN mediation and diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of conflict; and ensuring that member states fulfill their financial commitments promptly and convert commitments into concrete actions.
He said Vietnam believes that multilateralism is the most sustainable path to achieve international peace and pledged Vietnam’s further collaboration with global partners to uphold global peace and security.
