Vietnam pledges to ensure water resource security

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has developed a synchronous infrastructure and legal system to manage and make full use of water resources for socio-economic development with the prevention of floods and other damages caused by water.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Hoang Hiep made his remarks at a ceremony celebrating this year’s World Food Day, October 16, with the theme “Water Is Life, Water Is Food. Leave No One Behind”. He said Vietnam is an agricultural countries with tens of millions of people relying on fresh water for their livelihood.

“Vietnam will ensure the safety of dam and water resource security and water saving and efficiency. We will promote cooperation with upper stream countries and international organizations in efficiently using water in the basin of cross-border rivers to become a transparent, responsible and sustainable food producer and supplier so that no one is left behind,” said Deputy Minister Hiep.

Rémi Nono Womdim, Food and Agriculture Organization Representative to Vietnam, added that agricultural and food systems should be transformed to adapt to climate change.
