Professor Dr. Pan Jin’e of the Research Institute of Marxism under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences described Vietnam as a successful example of combining socialism with a market economy.
Pan, an expert on Vietnamese affairs, said Vietnam has made significant strides in poverty reduction and social equity efforts, with the World Bank recognizing the country as “a model for poverty reduction among developing nations.”
Zhang Jianguo, former Director-General of the Western Europe Department under the International Liaison Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, called the Doi Moi (renewal) policy launched in 1986 a historic turning point.
Zhang, who is also Secretary-General of the Charhar Institute, said that Vietnam’s reforms and openness over the past decades have yielded remarkable results, sustaining an average annual growth rate of 6% since 2022 and making Vietnam a key growth engine in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam scholar Wei Wei said that in recent years, Vietnam has pushed through bold and comprehensive reforms that reshaped its political and economic landscapes. He projected that Vietnam’s economy will continue its strong trajectory, potentially outpacing the regional average by a significant margin.
Professor Pan also highlighted Vietnam’s GDP growth of 7.52% in the first half of 2025, the highest mid-year rate since 2011, saying it is a clear signal that Vietnam is on the cusp of a new era of rapid growth.
