President Nguyen Xuan Phuc made the statement on Sunday while meeting with Tatiana Valoya, General Director of the United Nations Office in Geneva during his official visit to Switzerland.

Mr. Phuc insisted that Vietnam wants to develop comprehensive cooperation with the UN, particularly since next year will be the 45th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to the UN.

Ms. Valoya applauded Vietnam’s excellent performance as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in the 2020-2021 period and its many initiatives and practical contributions to global issues.

Vietnam is a developing country but has taken a leading role and become a role model in combating climate change, she said.

Valoya notes that the United Nations appreciates Vietnam and is ready to cooperate with and accompany the country in the fight against COVID-19 through the COVAX mechanism, and support Vietnam’s post-pandemic recovery.
