Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s directive, issued Wednesday, ordered ministries and localities to carry out drastic measures to contain the spread of COVID-19. They were asked to quickly identify sources of infection, quarantine or closely monitor anyone having contact with a COVID-19 carrier per guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, and check anyone who arrived in Vietnam in the last 14 days.

The directive requires everyone traveling from or transiting through epidemic-hit areas to be quarantined upon entering Vietnam.

Authorities will tighten control of entry into Vietnam by all air, land, and sea routes. Vietnam will suspend visa waivers, even ones already granted, for Vietnamese and their family members who live in Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the UK, France, Germany, or Spain.

As of Thursday, Vietnam had had 44 Covid-19 infection cases. 5 new cases were reported on Thursday.
