(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam ranks sixth globally in the number of Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks after China, the US, France, Russia, and Brazil and ranks second in the Asia-Pacific region.

The Authority of Information Security at the Ministry of Information and Communications said there have been many cyber attacks using a DDoS method targeting e-newspapers of press agencies and causing temporary shutdowns.
In the first half of this year, Vietnam reported over 2,900 cyber-attacks. The Authority of Information Security wants media agencies to invest more on security, update information safety measures, and detect risks early on for prompt solutions.
The Vietnam Computer Emergency Response Team (VNCERT) and the Authority of Information Security launched a drill on emergency response to DDoS attack for media agencies on Tuesday.
