Vietnam ready to join countries to transform food systems into sustainable ones

(VOVWORLD) - Food security in Vietnam and the world will top the agenda of the 4th global conference of the One Planet Network's Sustainable Food Systems Program, which opened in Hanoi on Monday.

This is a ministerial-level conference hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam with the participation of more than 300 delegates, including 200 international delegates from countries, United Nations agencies, and international organizations.

Themed “Emerging from global crises by shaping sustainable, resilient, healthy, and inclusive food systems,” the conference will examine major barriers to the transformation of food systems and put forward recommendations to ensure global food security.

Speaking at the conference opening, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang said that Vietnam is ready to join hands with other countries to transform food systems into a sustainable ones to contribute to protecting the planet.

"On March 28, 2023, the Government of Vietnam issued the national action plan to build a transparent, responsible and sustainable food system in Vietnam by 2030 to implement our goal of becoming a transparent - responsible - sustainable food producer and supplier," said Mr. Quang.

"Vietnam confirmed this commitment at the 2021 United Nations Food Systems Summit. We have also affirmed our willingness to share experiences and cooperate with other countries in agricultural and rural development," he noted.
