Vietnam reports 53 new cases of COVID-19, mostly community infections

(VOVWORLD) - From 6am to 6pm on Saturday, Vietnam recorded 53 new cases of COVID- 19, of which 49 people were infected in the community in Hai Duong (47 cases) and Ho Chi Minh City (2 cases). The remaining 4 cases are imported and quarantined upon their arrival in Vietnam, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

To date, Vietnam has cured 1,531  patients of the total 2,195 COVID-19 patients. 35 patients died.

The National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control said at a meeting on Saturday that Vietnam underwent 4 days of the Lunar New Year holidays safely in a new normal. The Committee said the epidemic has basically been under control in 13 provinces and cities.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, who is head of the Committee, stressed the need to continue quickly tracing contacts, zoning off infected areas, quarantine and virus analysis to find sources of infection and treat patients effectively. The Deputy Prime Minister required stricter management of the border and inspection of quarantine areas to make sure that epidemic prevention regulations are abided by.
