The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the signing of a treaty on basic principles for Vietnam-Russia friendship in 2019 and the 70th anniversary of the diplomatic relationship between Vietnam and Russia in 2020.
Mr. Trong’s visit is the first visit by a top Vietnamese official since President Putin was reelected in March. It aims to strengthen the two countries’ political trust, enhance strategic cooperation, assert Vietnam’s consistent policy that Russia is a top priority in its foreign policy, and promote the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Russia.
Chairman of the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Association Vladimir Buianov told Vietnamese media that Mr. Trong’s visit will help lift bilateral relations to a new height in both politics and economics.
