Vietnam strives to fulfill this year’s development targets

(VOVworld) – The government monthly meeting for October opened in Hanoi on Saturday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung. Cabinet members discussed the implementation of development tasks over the last 10 months and plans for the remainder of the year. They agreed that during the reviewed period, positive progress has been recorded in socio-economic development, inflation control, social security, and job generation. Political security and social order have been ensured.

Prime Minister Dung asked all ministries and localities to continue stabilizing the macro-economy, controlling inflation, removing difficulties for business production, and ensuring social welfare. He said that a growth rate of 5.4% this year will create the momentum for higher growth rates in the years to come. He also called for measures to balance the demand and supply of goods for the lunar new year festival, control market prices, and prevent smuggling and speculation. He requested ministries, sectors and localities to better implement policies on social welfare, job generation, sustainable poverty reduction, new rural development, traffic safety, fire and explosion prevention and control, and social security and order. Vietnam expects to achieve the 2 remaining Millennium Development Goals concerning clean water and HIV/AIDS prevention and control by 2015.

Prime Minister Dung asked the relevant agencies to provide support in housing and production for people in central provinces to overcome the aftermath of recent storms while devise plans to upgrade reservoirs. He asked for greater efforts in institutional building and administrative reform and better preparation for negotiations of free trade agreements as well as the Q and A session at the National Assembly’s year-end session. He asked ministries and localities to cooperate with the media in informing the people of the country’s developments in order to create consensus to achieve the set targets.
