(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam strongly condemns the terrorist attacks that killed scores of innocent people in the New Zealand city of Christchurch, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang said on Friday.

The spokesperson stressed that Vietnam believes the Government and people of New Zealand, with their firm will and resolve, will soon overcome the loss, and the instigators of the attacks will receive due punishment.
Party General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh have extended messages of sympathy to New Zealand leaders.

On Saturday, New Zealand's Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, vowed to strengthen the country's gun control laws, after it emerged the suspect acquired five guns legally.
The suspect, Australian Brenton Tarrant, appeared in a Christchurch court on Saturday where he was formally charged with murder.
