Vietnam succeeds in power supply to more than 17 million households

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Dang Hoang An said Vietnam has posted major achievements in rural electrification with the rate of power consumers increasing steadily.

Addressing a workshop on power supply to rural, mountainous and island areas on Thursday, the Deputy Minister said that household access to power has risen from 2.5% in 1975 to more than 99.5% in 2019 with over 17 million households having access to electricity:

'Rural electrification has help economic restructuring, crop and husbandry models towards better productivity and income. Power supply to craft villages have replaced manual with mechanical production. The public have found it easier to gain access to media entertainment for new rural area building in industrialization and international integration,' said An.

By 2025, the country targets supplying electricity to over 871,000 households in more than 6,800 villages of 2,100 communes, and over 2,600 small and medium-sized pumping stations in the Mekong Delta, and connecting to the national grid or providing renewable energy to islands belonging to Quang Tri, Kien Giang, and Khanh Hoa provinces.
