(VOVWORLD) - UN member countries applauded Vietnam for fulfilling its mission as the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) President in April, especially for calling the Council’s attention to humanitarian issues and civilian protection, according to Thursday’s meeting to review Vietnam’s Month of UNSC Presidency in New York.

Throughout April, Vietnam initiated and chaired 4 events including high-level discussions on cooperation between the UN and regional organisations in enhancing confidence-building and dialogue in conflict prevention; mine action; protection of objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population; and sexual violence in conflict.

Under Vietnam’s Presidency, the UNSC timely responded to issues that threaten international peace and security, such as developments in Syria, Palestine, Yemen, Colombia, and Myanmar.

In April, the UNSC held 27 official events.
