Vietnam successfully concludes term of UNESCO Executive Council’s member

(VOVworld) – The 37th session of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Conference concluded and Vietnam wrapped up its 2010-2013 term as a member of UNESCO's Executive Council. Ambassador Duong Van Quang, Head of the Vietnam permanent delegation to UNESCO, said the 37th session adopted two resolutions to honor Vietnamese poet Nguyen Du together with other world famous figures and to elect Vietnam one of the 21 members of the World Heritage Committee in the 2013-2017 term.
Ambassador Quang said that Vietnam has made active contributions to promoting relations between ASEAN and UNESCO. He said Vietnam campaigned the ASEAN’s Secretariat to urge its members to support the draft cooperative agreement between ASEAN and UNESCO. The draft cooperative agreement was submitted to the UNESCO's Executive Council and is expected to be approved on December 2013. Quang added that Vietnam's active participation in UNESCO’s activities has elevated the country's status internationally.
