The Conference was organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the United Nations, and the Austrian Parliament with a theme of parliaments leading the realization of effective multilateralism to achieve world peace and sustainable development.

While addressing a seminar called "Stepping up parliamentary action: the climate change emergency”, Chairwoman Ngan said Vietnam’s National Assembly has been working closely with the Government to improve the legal framework for environmental protection and prioritize resources for programs to achieve climate change resilience and sustainable development.

She proposed parliamentary actions to deal with climate change. “We should promote policies aimed at economic restructuring for sustainable development, green growth, and a circular economy in order to mitigate the adverse impacts of climate change. Social policies to protect the vulnerable, including women, children, and those impacted by climate change, are needed," said Ngan. "Parliaments should allocate resources appropriately, enhance oversight, and take other countermeasures. International organizations and developed countries should increase their support for developing countries in responding to climate change, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.
