Vietnam targets vaccination rate of 95 percent for under-1-year-old children

(VOVWORLD) - The health sector aims to have over 95 percent of under-one-year-old children nationwide fully vaccinated by 2020, according to a conference in Hanoi on Monday.

The National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology said that greater support will be given to disadvantaged localities to increase their vaccination rate through improving the capacity of medical staff, and making it easier for the people to access the expanded immunization service. Vietnam has successfully protected its goal to eliminate polio for 18 consecutive years and maintained the achievement of removing neonatal tetanus nationwide for 13 consecutive years.

The country has also successfully used measles-rubella vaccine produced by Vietnam, instead of imported products for 18-month-old children from last April. Last year, more than 1.7 million children were registered on the national immunization information management system.
