Vietnam to strengthen comprehensive strategic partnership with China

(VOVworld) – President Truong Tan Sang said Vietnam and China should support each other, consolidate their friendly cooperation, and contribute to maintaining peace and stability of the region and the world, especially amid global complexities. In his talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday, President Sang proposed that both countries should increase political trust and cooperation, and seek solutions to existing problems. He said although both countries’ differences on the East Sea issues were clear, both sides should respect each other’s legitimate interests, control the situation, and abide by the views and agreements reached between the leaders of both countries. He emphasized that Vietnam and China should settle conflicts through negotiation, avoid actions to complicate the situation or escalate disputes, should not pursuit militarization purposes in the East Sea, ensure navigation and aviation safety and fishing activities, and join hands to ensure peace and stability for the development of both countries and the region. He said both sides should promote maritime cooperation in accordance with international law, especially the UN 1982 Convention on the Law of the Sea, the Declaration of Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), and promptly sign a Code of Conduct there. President Sang suggested both sides promote cooperation in all fields and effectively implement signed agreements in economics, trade, and investment.
