Prototype models of G-Track tracking wristbands, which utilize GPS technologies, developed by Ginnovations. |
The wristband, developed by tech firm Ginnovations, uses GPS technology and will alert authorities if the wearer exits a quarantine zone. It is a single-use tag, meaning if the user removes it, it will send a warning to authorities and a new one has to be used to continue tracking, according to a spokesperson at the AITA under the Ministry of Information and Communications.
The wristband also scans body temperature, detects altitude changes and calorie consumption and is waterproof, said Ginnovations. Singapore, South Korea, and some other countries have used electronic tagging to monitor people who have flouted COVID prevention rules.
Vietnam has detected more than 8,500 COVID-19 cases including more than 5,000 recorded since the latest coronavirus wave hit the country on April 27. 37 patients have died.
