Nguyen Phong Nha, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority at the Ministry of Information and Communication, told a press conference on Wednesday that phasing out the 2G service is an inevitable and necessary milestone.

As of September 2023, Vietnam had 15 million 2G subscribers. From March 1, 2024, the Telecommunications Authority has asked network operators to discontinue subscriptions of new 2G‑only phones.
The number of 2G subscribers has been gradually decreasing. It’s a global trend to use smartphones with advanced functions.
