Vietnam, UK share experience in atomic energy

(VOVworld) - Hanoi has hosted a two-day seminar to discuss establishing an atomic energy research program and developing human resources in related fields. On Tuesday, participants assessed the reality of current human resource shortfalls in Vietnamese universities and proposed expanding cooperation with the UK to ensure Vietnam’s first nuclear power plants will have the human resources they need. The event was co-organized by the British Embassy in Vietnam, Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology, and the Ministry of Education and Training.

On November 28, Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Dinh Tien and British Ambassador to Vietnam Antony Stokes signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in using atomic energy for peaceful purposes between Vietnam’s Ministry of Science and Technology and the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The two sides will cooperate in the nuclear regulatory field, education and training, human resources development, research and development of civil nuclear power plants, and the application of radiation and radioactive isotopes in socio-economic development.
