Vietnam, US boost defense ties

(VOVworld) - Chief of the General Staff of Vietnam People’s Army and Deputy Minister of National Defense Phan Van Giang met with Commanding General of the US Army Pacific Robert Brown in Hanoi on Thursday.

At the meeting, Giang highlighted progress in military-defense cooperation between Vietnam and the US. He said the two have organized joint activities in war aftermath alleviation, search and rescue, and unexploded ordnance disposal, and shared experience in UN peacekeeping missions.

The US commander said the visit is an opportunity to learn about Vietnam, its people, and its current training methods for search and rescue missions. He called for greater bilateral cooperation and experience exchanges, particularly in human resource training, disaster relief services, and UN peacekeeping tasks.
