(VOVworld)- Vietnam and the US have agreed to promote efforts to find the remains of servicemen who died during the war in Vietnam. The agreement was reached at a series of meetings between Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son, Deputy Defense Minister Nguyen Chi Vinh and Deputy Minister of Public Security To Lam and visiting US Deputy Assistant to Secretary of Defense for Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Affairs (POW/MIA)  W.M.Winfield over the past few days. The US visitor highly appreciated Vietnam’s close cooperation in searching for remains of US servicemen who went missing during the war. Vietnam acknowledged the US’s recent assistance in helping to deal with the war’s aftermaths including decontamination of dioxin, bomb and mine-clearance and the provision of information regarding Vietnamese soldiers who died during the war. Vietnam proposed that the US increase humanitarian assistance to Vietnam, especially to victims and localities that were severely affected.
