Vietnam vows to accelerate poverty reduction efforts

(VOVworld) – The adoption of the Rome Declaration on Nutrition and the Framework for Action will serve as a direction for the sustainable development of agriculture, food and nutrition security in Vietnam, Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Hoang Long said.

The Vietnamese government vows to step up poverty reduction efforts, Long, who is also Vietnam’s permanent representative to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, told the second International Conference on Nutrition in Rome. Mr. Long emphasized Vietnam’s achievements in poverty reduction and nutritional guarantee. He pointed out challenges that Vietnam is facing and measures and programs to ensure people’s nutrition.

The declaration and framework were passed unanimously by nearly 200 countries after consultations with social organizations and the private sector globally. Attendees set targets, proposed ways to deal with malnutrition in the world, and named 2016-2025 the Decade of Action for Nutrition.
