During a UN Security Council briefing on the Middle East situation, Ambassador Quy reaffirmed strong support for the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people for their inalienable rights. He said that Vietnam supports the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine with the borders enshrined in relevant resolutions of the United Nations, living side-by-side with the State of Israel, in peaceful coexistence, security and mutual recognition.

Vietnam is deeply concerned about Israel’s continued resettlement activities and recent calls for annexation of parts of the occupied Palestinian territory, Ambassador Quy said. He called on all parties to strive for a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace through dialogue and negotiation on the basis of respect for international law, the UN Charter, and relevant resolutions. A peace settlement can only be reached by exercising restraint, avoiding actions that may further complicate the situation, and maintaining direct dialogue, he said, adding that Vietnam hopes all parties will engage in discussion with goodwill and in a constructive manner.

Mr. Quy reaffirmed Vietnam’s readiness to make a positive contribution to promoting dialogue and negotiation within and beyond the UN with a view to achieving a solution to the Israel-Palestine conflict that ensures the legitimate rights and interests of Palestine and all other parties concerned.
