Vietnam well prepared for possible second wave of COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has devised scenarios for a potential second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, senior Vietnamese experts told Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam on Tuesday.

The scientists said Vietnam is able to produce 4 types of test kits and has developed a candidate vaccine for COVID-19.

“The candidate vaccine has been tested on animals and showed good results. We are moving on to the next step of human trials,” said Do Tuan Dat, Director of the Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1, which is working on the candidate vaccine.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam, who heads the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control, urged for all available resources to step up COVID-19 vaccine development projects and ensure fast and accurate testing for successful treatment.

“We have prepared for the worst scenario. The Ministry of Health will join forces with businesses in producing the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Mr. Dam.

By Tuesday, Vietnam had recorded no new domestic transmissions of COVID-19 for 75 days in a row. 335 of the 355 cases have recovered and no deaths have been reported.
