(VOVWORLD) - Vietnamese organizations and associations in the UK have raised more than 82,000 USD to help people in Vietnam’s northern provinces who were affected by typhoon Yagi early this month.

The donors included the Vietnamese Association in the UK, the Vietnamese Business Association in the UK, the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association in the UK and Ireland, the Students' Association of Oxford, the Vietnamese Women and Children's Association in the UK, Vietnamese communities in Birmingham and Liverpool, the Vietnam-UK Friendship Network, and Vietnamese representative agencies in the UK.
Professor Nguyen Xuan Huan, President of the Vietnamese Intellectuals Association, said that in just two days the Association raised 5,400 USD from Vietnamese and British intellectuals in the UK. Meanwhile, the Vietnamese community in Liverpool sent 1,300 USD to the Vietnam Fatherland Front to aid the victims.
Lam Oanh, head of the charity division of the Vietnamese Women and Children's Association in the UK, said that by the end of September, the Association had raised 14,000 USD. On September 22 its representatives came to Cao Bang and Lao Cai province to deliver gifts worth 40 USD each to more than 100 households. It will soon send 6,700 USD to the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
