The figures will increase to 1.4 billion litres by 2025, according to a development plan of the domestic dairy industry. At present, Vietnam’s demand for milk per capita is 26 litres per year, lower than some other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and Singapore.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the country's cow herd has been growing strongly as large businesses have increased investment in expanding production scale of animal husbandry. Biggest producers include Vinamilk, TH Group, and Nestlé Vietnam.
