Vietnamese doctor wins Asia-Pacific’s prestigious ophthalmology award

(VOVWORLD) - Doctor Nguyen Viet Giap of Vietnam was among 17 other individuals from across the region honored with the prestigious Prevention of Blindness Award at the recent 38th Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) Congress in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The award is Asia-Pacific’s most commendable distinction in ophthalmology and given to those with outstanding achievements in the prevention and control of blindness.

With over 30 years of experience, Dr. Giap, director of Ba Ria-Vung Tau provincial Eye Hospital, has had more than 50 research projects and creative ideas, helping more than 114,000 elderly people receive free medical examinations and treatment.

He is the first doctor of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province to receive the title “People’s Physician” by the State President.
