(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam pledges to engage responsibly in international parliamentary diplomacy and enhance the position of the country and its National Assembly in global and regional parliamentary collaboration.

National Assembly Vice Chairman Tran Quang Phuong made the statement on Monday at the opening ceremony of the 148th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU-148) and plenary session in Geneva, Switzerland.
During IPU-148, themed “Parliamentary diplomacy: building bridges for peace and understanding”, delegates are scheduled to take part in plenary sessions of the Assembly and the Governing Council, along with meetings on peace, international security, sustainable development, finance, trade, democracy, human rights, and UN affairs.
The Vietnamese delegation is set to attend 30 activities at IPU-148. NA Vice Chairman Phuong will meet with the new IPU President, the IPU Secretary-General, the Secretary-General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly, and several parliamentary leaders.
