Vietnamese officers working at UN awarded military ranks

(VOVWORLD) -Two officers Luong Truong Vinh and Nguyen Phuc Dong, who are working at the UN Department of Peace Operations, on Tuesday were awarded the rank of Colonel and Lieutenant Colonel, respectively.

The military promotion ceremony was held on Tuesday in New York by the Vietnamese Delegation to the UN at the request of the Peacekeeping Department, Ministry of National Defense.

Speaking at the ceremony, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang applauded the efforts and excellent accomplishment of the assigned tasks of the officers who were conferred the military rank in 2022.

Giang said that assuming new responsibilities, officers of the Vietnam People's Army will continue to promote their abilities and advise the Party and State on peacekeeping cooperation between Vietnam and the UN, especially is to seek opportunities to increase the Vietnamese peacekeepers’ participation in UN Missions.

Currently, Vietnam has four officers appointed by the UN as representatives. Vietnam has signed agreements for bilateral defense cooperation in peacekeeping with nine international partners. 
Vietnamese peacekeeping forces have been present in African countries. Vietnam plans to expand its forces from military medics, engineers or independent officers to infantry, military control, police and civilian forces.
