Speaking to VOV ahead of Vietnamese Party leader To Lam's State visit to Kazakhstan from May 5 to May 7, the ambassador said following Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's official visit to Vietnam in August 2023, Mr. To Lam's visit will elevate bilateral ties to a new height.

Over the past years, he said, Vietnam and Kazakhstan have achieved several key milestones. In 2023, bilateral trade reached nearly 1 billion USD, almost four times the figure in 2021, making Kazakhstan Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), and Vietnam Kazakhstan’s second-largest partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Bilateral cooperation in aviation, logistics, and tourism has also seen strong growth, with 42 flights per week between the two countries as of June. Additionally, starting May 25, a visa exemption policy for ordinary passport holders from both countries will officially take effect.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Tumysh noted that bilateral trade could increase to 2–5 billion USD by 2030, given the untapped potential in sectors such as logistics, agriculture, the defense industry, and energy.

He emphasized that Kazakhstan places high expectations on General Secretary To Lam’s visit to further strengthen ties.

During the visit, a Business Forum will be held with the participation of over 120 Vietnamese and Kazakh enterprises, and numerous cooperation agreements are expected to be signed.

Reflecting on the history of bilateral ties, the Ambassador remarked that 66 years after President Ho Chi Minh’s first visit to Kazakhstan in 1959, the two nations are entering a "golden era " of friendship and comprehensive cooperation.
