Vietnam-New Zealand trade and investment cooperation matters

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue held separate meetings on Sunday in Auckland city with representatives of New Zealand’s corporations and companies as part of his ongoing visit to New Zealand.

At the meetings, Mr. Hue said that one of the goals of his official visit to New Zealand was to promote the strategic partnership between the two, including trade and investment cooperation as an important pillar.

As part of the visit, the two sides would jointly organize two important forums on educational, economic, trade and investment cooperation to offer businesses and investors of both sides to promote future cooperation activities.

While meeting Mike Cronin, Managing Director of Co-operative Affairs at Fonterra which has been operating in supplying and distributing dairy and food products for restaurant and hotel chains in Vietnam since 1980, Mr. Hue suggested Fonterra Group study and invest in Vietnam in dairy farms and milk processing, the areas which Vietnam has strengths, to provide quality raw materials right in Vietnam.  In addition, Fonterra Group can cooperate in management training, transfer of technology, investment in breeders, products and equipment for Vietnamese farms and partners, especially high-quality dairy products in Vietnam and other ASEAN countries, he said. 

At a meeting with Fiso Investment CEO John Fiso and Director of Viet River Holdings Nguyen Truong Khoa, Chairman Hue said education is one of Vietnam’s priority areas to attract investment and called on the two companies to discuss specifically with relevant ministries and branches for specific implementation.

Fiso Investment and Viet River Holdings are cooperating with Vietnam in vocational traning and labor cooperation.

In regards of labor cooperation, Mr. Hue requested businesses to propose to the New Zealand Government, contributing to promoting the two Governments to sign an agreement on labor cooperation. He also suggested that businesses import more goods from Vietnam and export New Zealand products that Vietnam needs.

Meeting with the CEO of RE/MAX Company, one of the well-branded real estate companies in the US operating through the franchise system in New Zealand, Chairman Hue said that the company should focus on researching the labor cooperation market, expanding commercial cooperation opportunities, and participating in its main strength of real estate to meet the growing demand in Vietnam.

Mr. Hue expressed his support for the plan to import products of Vietnamese origin to open a sales center and supermarket for household appliances in New Zealand.

On Sunday, the representative of VietTechNZ came to greet National Assembly Chairman Hue and reported on its activities and efforts to connect organizations and personnel in Vietnam’s technology industry in New Zealand.
