(VOVworld) – DW online newspaper has run an article featuring Vietnam’s achievements in poverty reduction. The article hailed Vietnam’s economic achievements and its accomplishment of UN Millennium Development Goals. Vietnam has recorded the best poverty reduction results in the world, according to a UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) report released on Wednesday. The report said Vietnam now has 1 tenth of its population living in poverty, a significant improvement from the 1/3 in poverty in 1990. The article quoted Gerhard Will, Asia analyst at Berlin’s German Institute for International and Security Affairs, who said the Communist Party of Vietnam made a good decision to implement Vietnam’s renewal policy in 1986, which proved effective in the early 1990s after numerous initial difficulties. Will said Vietnam needs more policies to ensure its achievements are shared by people living in remote ethnic minority areas.
